From Open Strings to The New World

Every piece of music represents a new world to explore and discover. Whether you’re picking up the bow for the first time or refining your skills from lessons, this fundamental guide for beginner violinists is for you! Explore the basics of the instrument, learn simple melodies, and complete the course having learned a staple in violin repertoire.

What you need to participate: 

  • Tuned instrument (tuning will not take place during the session)
  • Rosin 
  • 1 Paper Straw, cut in half (equal parts), or Piece of Paper
  • If you join from tablet, print out the staff paper, otherwise on tablet is fine 
  • Small towel

In this course you will:
Be introduced to the basic components and techniques of violin playing
Learn exercises to develop bowing, fingering, and rhythm skills
Play simple melodies and beginner songs with confidence and musicality
Go from playing Open Strings to exploring the rich world of classical violin repertoire
Perform in an ensemble made up of you and your fellow violinists in a Trala recital
What you need to participate:

Maria Pino

She/Her

Trained in the renowned "El Sistema" in Venezuela, Maria continues to serve as a violin/viola professor and director. She is an absolutely motivating, positive, and caring teacher. She patiently looks for opportunities to introduce the appropriate theory to students during lessons, and keeps them motivated and positive while they gain the physical and mental skills required to learn violin.
